Tourmaline
Tourmaline is a complex group of minerals that occurs in more colours than any other gemstone, spanning all colours of the rainbow. The name is derived from the Sinhalese word “tourmali,” which means “mixed parcel.” Some tourmalines have specific names, including chrome (green); indicolite (blue); Paraiba (electric blue to green); rubellite (red); and watermelon (pink and green).

Tourmaline is a complex group of minerals based on aluminum boro-silicate that come in all the colours of the rainbow. Their value comes from their clarity and the type and intensity of colour. Some colours have specific names including:
• Chrome: Intense green, coloured by chromium and/or vanadium
• Indicolite: Blue
• Paraíba: Electric blue to green, coloured by copper
• Rubellite: Red
• Watermelon: Pink in the centre, green at the edge
• Bi-colour: More than one colour in the same stone
